It’s been at least a year since these two last visited Perth, they were here for a Red Bull info session where they played an amazing gig for a smallish but appreciative crowd. Mark and Steve exposed some killer sounds to many Dubstep virgin ears with huge natural science visuals in the background.
The set up was similar in many ways this time around, although the Bakery Complex now sounds and looks much better. The Bakery plays host to a multitude of different events and is close to being one of the best venues the city has to offer. It was unfortunate that the night before Sydney based band ‘Van She’ allegedly soiled the green room to an uninhabitable state, I’m talking piss and…..yep… shit… but that’s another story.
Mark’s set seems to be pretty uncompromising, in a good way, which I absolutely love. It reminds me of the old underground warehouse parties where DJ’s really can play what they want. It’s a pretty different scenario to what goes down at local club nights, even in the hipster spots. I’m guessing that Mark has a little of the warehouse ethos still in his blood as I think he was quite active in the early Jungle scene. This showed as he ’stepped out’ with some timely old school Ragga Twins that actually sent a few people over the edge.
Mark also threw down some unreleased stuff of his own that sounded killer, I eagerly await the Harmonic 313 album on Warp if that was anything to go by.
A great night from the {Move} crew supported by us here at Cardboard City Records.

Cardboard City Records has teamed up with the {Move} crew to bring you some parties with a difference. You may recall our ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ at the Velvet lounge in Mt Lawley.
It was a great night of Low Slung Beats, Dubstep and Sci-Fi films, best of all it was free and a good time was had by all.
The latest outing for ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ happened last weekend. We were asked to help promote a show for DJ and producer Maurice Fulton, Ben who runs {Move} felt an overwhelming sense of duty to get behind this show and help out. Maurice has many styles up his sleeve and you’re never sure what you gonna get, either way it will be great music he ended up playing a killer set to a floor hungry and appreciative crowd.

The Night ended in a rather memorable fashion when an absolutely pungent, hideous stench engulfed theup stairs of the Shape Nightclub. At first I thought it was coming from the lighting guy, but he looked equally as disgusted as if it was me. I could see that the floor was emptying and people were all looking at each other to find the culprit. Moments later Maurice shut down the sound, grabbed his CD wallet and headphones and we just hi tailed it outta there.
It was mentioned by one of the staff that the source of the stench was dead rats in the aircon but it just smelt like a home made stink bomb to me.
We had a great night last Friday for the launch of the Paper Plane Project E.P. Thanks to all who came and showed their support. THANK YOU!
Here are some photos of the lads in deep concentration during the live set. We’ll have a sweet little mix tape up shortly for you to download and reminisce about the night. : )

The first off the bench for Cardboard City Records this year is a five track E.P from ‘The Paper Plane Project’, lovely summery good vibe Hip-Hop and beats.
The title track ‘Let It Bang’ features San Francisco’s Raashan Ahmad from The Crown City Rockers on microphone duties.http://www.myspace.com/raashanahmad
Next up is a 4 track 12” from The Assembly Line,
a couple of obsessive vinyl junkies and MPC fanatics. This E.P is a
staple DJ record, one that will stand the test of time in crates.
I love the killer track that was described by the lads as a ‘Polish Psych
Jump Off’, a propper party starter, followed by a fresh Cosmic Jazz
tune with sweet Hammond licks played by one of the Assembly Line boys
Dad!
Volume two of our ‘2 Sides to Every Story’
compilation will feature 6 tracks from Cardboard City Artists. From
dance floor Cosmic Disco to downbeat instrumentals and breaks.
Dan Dare
has been exploring the outer realms of the solar system and is due back
very soon. He is rumored to be bringing with him sound samples from his
adventures, expect some low slung space groove’s due on two tasty
little 7″ biscuits.
